Yamada Sensei

Smith Sensei is pleased to announce that Yoshimitsu Yamada Shihan, president of the United States Aikido Federation has agreed to preside over our Official 25th Anniversary Seminar in June 12-14th 2009.

Special guest instructors will also include Rick Stickles Shihan (Aikido Schools of NJ), Karen Da Poala Shidoin (Skylands Aikikai) and Jim Soviero Shidoin (Red Bank Aikikai NJ).

This will truly be a special seminar and will require a lot of preparation on our part to make it successful. I would like to thank you all in advance for volunteering to help!!!!

That weekend is also the Tall Ships race reception as part of the celebration of Bermuda’s 400th birthday (so to speak). So it should be a great weekend. Details will follow….

Lunenburg Aikikai

Just a quick heads up, I don’t have all the details yet but Lunenburg Aikikai (http://www.lunenburgaikikai.com/) will be hosting our Smith Sensei at a seminar in the first or second week of May 2009. Dates to be confirmed.

Self Defense Seminar

There will be a self defense seminar on Saturday October 18th as per the attached flyer and Bermuda Aikikai will be “performing” a demo on Sunday 19th at the same venue (details to follow).

Dojo Update 17 September 2008

USAF

The USAF quarterly news letter has just been posted on the web at http://www.usafaikidonews.com/  It is always worth a look especially since there is an article about our 25th Anniversary and Anthea’s promotion to nidan is also recognized on the “Dan Promotion” section.

A similar article will be given to the local media in advance of our annual (continuous??) efforts to encourage people to join the dojo and bolster our membership. Details to follow….

If you have ideas about how to boost membership please let us know…….

Schedule

As a reminder we officially revert back to our normal Fall Schedule on Monday September 22nd, see the web site for details http://www.aikido.bm/classes.htm

Contributions

We are looking to spruce up the emails that we send out so if anyone would like to contribute anything please let me know……There is no set schedule, when we have something to say we send out the email.

Knowing that not everyone (gasp!) has email if someone can take responsibility for printing out these communications and posting them prominently at the dojo, we would be grateful (and so would they)!!

Student Information

So far I have received TWO completed Student Information forms, please take the time to complete and return the form to me either via email or hard copy at the dojo. The form is available here http://www.aikido.bm/classes.htm Enter the information, “Save As” and then attach to an email to me.

Additional Training

I am planning on having a “Free Training” night on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. for senior aikidoka. This is not supposed to be a class per say, but a “free training” session where our aikido techniques can be put into motion. Focus will be on fluidity and movement rather than static technique. There will not be a lot of instruction but assistance will be offered by sempai as necessary.

This is not meant to replace a class during the week but to supplement your normal taijutsu class allowing you to put techniques in motion. This type of training is essential as you progress beyond 2nd kyu.

Training will be open to ranks above 3rd kyu and above (or invitation), lower ranks may attend to take ukemi only.

The most senior sempai in attendance will open and close the training session and will direct the training in accordance with normal dojo etiquette. If you have questions about this class, give me a shout.

“Free Training” will start on Tuesday September 23rd at 7 p.m.

Dojo Update: 22 May 2007

Hi everyone,

In an effort to increase our younger membership (that is not to say that we are all old…..well maybe it is!!) we have invited the editor and staff of Youthnet News to the dojo on Monday May 28th.

Youthnet News is the newspaper supplement you see in the newspaper every Thursday which is directed towards our islands young people.

They will be coming about 6:15 to find out a little more about martial arts in Bermuda and to learn a little about aikido and to participate in a class. It is likely that they will feature Bermuda Aikikai in the next weekly supplement (cool!!!)

I urge you all to come out to support the dojo in our effort to make the youth aware of the benefits of martial arts and to encourage them to learn more about aikido

See you Monday!!!

Dojo Update: 14 May 2007

Hi everyone,

Please be advised that the schedule for Luqman Sensei’s visit is now posted on our web site www.aikido.bm.

You will see that on the Saturday morning there is a FREE aikido class open to the public which we will advertise in the news papers etc. We are hoping for a good turn out from the public and will need your help.

You will also see that Sensei Jamie Constable from Canada will be teaching a class on  Monday as well, I hear he is pretty good as well (hahahhahaaaaaaa!!!!!).

It will be a great time and the dojo needs your participation to make this work so we look forward to seeing you there!!!!

Domo!

Peter
